+ What is hack|ed?

hack|ED is a community outreach event designed to foster innovation, collaboration, and education in North Texas.

+ Who should attend?

Experienced Programmers, Developers, UI/UX Designers, Makers, Marketers, Business Minds, and the like, should attend the “Hack” Track – which is a 24-hour hackathon competition focused on creating innovative applications for the iOS and Android wearables platform.

Anyone with a passionate curiosity to learn some basic coding should attend the “ED” track – which is a guided and self-paced educational option to learn about building simple 2D games using Corona SDK and Lua script.

+ What Should I Bring?

Bring your laptops, mobile phones, wearable devices, headphones, and whatever else inspires you - but above all, bring your energy and your brain! Don’t worry if you forget something, there will be tons of stuff to do.

+ Do I need a wearable device to participate in the competition track?

No, Developers without access to a device may use simulators, such as iOS Simulator for Apple Watch or Android Wear Emulator for Android Wear applications.

+ What Is The Cost Of This Event?

Thanks to our sponsors, hack|ED is 100% free for participants! This includes WiFi, food, drinks, and some cool swag!

+ HOW DO I FORM OR JOIN A TEAM FOR THE “HACK” TRACK?

We encourage participants to start forming teams before the event. However, there will be opportunity to meet teammates at the event.

+ ARE THERE PRIZES FOR THE HACK CATEGORIES?

Yes. There will be a first place prize for the winner of the hackathon competition

+ WHO OWNS MY PROJECT & IP?

All teams retain full ownership of what they have created during the Hackathon. We are here to help foster innovation and creative thinking, to educate and enlighten, to collaborate, network, and to encourage entrepreneurship.

+ IS THERE REIMBURSEMENT FOR TRAVEL?

No, we unfortunately do not offer any reimbursement for travel expenses at this time.

+ ARE THERE ANY HOTEL DISCOUNTS FOR THIS EVENT?

No, we do not have any hotel blocks or discounts for this event. However, if you are travelling here for the event, we can say that the following hotels are nearby:

+ MAY WE WORK THROUGH THE NIGHT ON SITE?

No, the school prefers us not to stay and work overnight, therefore we will shut down at 10pm on Friday. Plus, those on the educational track will involve younger folks who will need to go home and get some sleep. You are, however, welcome to continue to work offsite on Friday night, if you so choose.
